¿Qu(i)é(n) es la hierba mala? (Who or what is the unwanted green?)
With the intention of rethinking the dichotomous concepts of nature and humanity, and to recognize their intrinsic connection, in this piece, I challenge the conventional categorization of wild vegetation that grows abundantly and undesirably in any sircumstance: wild grass. I invert and expand this concept to reflect upon the human presence in the environment and its impact on "nature". Thus, this sculptural work, consisting of a porcelain pelvis and torso integrated with live plants on a human scale, seeks to engage with the environment. Whether placed outdoors, becoming a manifestation of "human-wild grass" intertwining with surrounding vegetation, or indoors, where it coexists in a "clean" space alongside plants growing excessively from within, the piece invites contemplation on the complex interplay between humanity and nature.
